Indigo Treat Honeyberry is an early-ripening variety known for its exceptionally sweet and flavorful berries. The dark blue, elongated fruit has a firm texture and a well-balanced taste, making it ideal for fresh eating, baking, jams, and freezing. Ripening in late spring to early summer, it provides one of the season’s first berry harvests.
Indigo Treat fruits are high in flavor. The flavor of black currants is more pronounced, with a strong aromatic sweetness of black raspberries and blueberries. The light blue fruits are longer and flatter than other cultivars.
This cold-hardy shrub thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, capable of withstanding extreme winter temperatures as low as -40°F. It has a compact, upright growth habit and is naturally resistant to pests and diseases, making it a low-maintenance choice for home gardeners. Indigo Treat requires cross-pollination with another honeyberry variety, such as Aurora or Tundra, for optimal fruit production.
